O Lord Jesus Christ, my Redeemer and my Refuge,
“These ill thoughts placed in my mind
To Thee, O Jesus, I quickly bind,
That Thou mightest cast them far from me by Thine own fiat/decree.
Set me free.” - Memorize
Thou art the Lord of all comfort, the God of all consolation,
Who comforteth us in all our afflictions,
That we may also comfort them which are in any trouble
By the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of Thee.
Behold, O Lord, the wave returneth with force—
This hidden ache, this stirring of lust,
Which seizeth my soul as the tempest seizeth the sea.
Yet hast Thou taught me that lust is not merely of the flesh,
But of the heart—
A heart crying out to be seen,
To be held,
To be known,
To flee from pain, from weariness, from the void of solitude.
To be filled, and no longer desolate.
But woe is me if I run to broken cisterns which hold no water.
Let me not bow before a false comfort,
Nor seek refuge in the fleeting shadow of sinful pleasure.
Nay, Lord, I turn unto Thee.
Thy love is greater than the craving;
Thy nearness is balm beyond all fantasy;
Thy truth more steadfast than the whirlwind of desire.
I entreat Thee, therefore:
Comfort me, Lord Jesus—
Not as the world giveth, give I unto Thee,
But with the peace that passeth understanding.
Comfort me with truth, not illusion;
With holy love, not base lust;
With Thine own presence, and not with distraction.
Let Thy Spirit now fill every chamber of my soul
Where once lust did knock and whisper.
Let Thy voice thunder where demons once did speak.
Let Thy light expose where lies do lurk.
And let the adversary flee—
For Thou, O Lord, art present.
Raise up Thy perfect love as a flood, O God,
And let it wash away every shadow,
Every stirring, every stain.
Let it drown my longing in Thine eternal embrace,
Till no desire remain but for Thee alone.
Make me to know that Thou art not afar off—
Yea, Thou art nigh.
Thou art here.
And Thou art enough.
Seal me now with Thy Spirit.
Clothe me in the armor of light.
Strengthen mine hands to war against the flesh,
And gird my loins with truth.
Let not mine enemies triumph over me.
Let not lust have dominion.
But make me wholly Thine,
Pure in heart, steadfast in spirit,
Set apart for Thy glory.
In the name of Jesus Christ, who liveth and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Ghost,
One God, world without end.
Amen.
